HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a must have treatment for clients who are concerned with flaccid skin and wrinkles, but don’t want to have thread lifts or surgery. HIFU obtains superior tightening and lifting without the potential risks and complications associated with thread lifts or surgery.
Our SF HIFU Med targets the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) layer of the skin, the same layer that’s targeted during a thread lift or surgical face lift procedure.
SF HIFU Med fires heat down to the SMAS thus the micro thermal effect from the treatment creates uniform dots with the SMAS, which in turn stimulates collagen growth and production, meaning new collagen formation.
Collagen helps keep our skin strong, voluminous and supple. As we get older, our bodies gradually produce less and less collagen, which leads to an 80% reduction in skin thickness by around age 70. This loss of volume and strength is a large factor in skin laxity and wrinkles.
The reason we target the SMAS is that it is the foundation of the skins structure. By lifting strengthening and tightening this layer, the entire skin’s structure is lifted.
As HIFU works very deeply in the skin’s structure, it needs very little maintenance. It takes around 90 days for the body to produce new collagen following a HIFU procedure. We recommend an initial course of 3 treatments at 3 monthly intervals. An individual top up treatment is generally recommended every 12-18 months depending on age, skin etc
What should I expect in a HIFU treatment?
Although we are using heat, we bypass the skin’s superficial layers and nerve endings, so patients should not experience and heating or warmth. Instead they may feel a dull ache especially in bony areas like the jowls. They may also feel a tight or tingly sensation in their face, which is completely normal, and a confirmation that the treatment is working. It can be mildly uncomfortable in sensitive areas, however no anaesthetic is required.
